Things to do with Toddlers

Hearing the word toddlers gives us a happy vibe image and for parents they are their whole world. In this pandemic world, where one after another pandemic is knocking on the doors , what about toddlers? Certainly no parent on earth would be willing to take  their toddler out for fun activities. Nothing can be planned out without worrying about the pandemic.By shutting toddlers inside the houses we might save them from pandemic but their social growth will be affected. I came across a case where the three year old toddler was struggling to speak words which is common to a three year old toddler. I didn’t know the exact reason why that speech delay happened but if toddlers will stay isolated in a home speech delay will become a common problem in my perspective. Even parents do not have enough time to engage with toddlers, they too have Work From Home thing to do. Not everyone knows  how to have intentional, educational engagement with their little ones. Often parents are too busy so they just put on animation, cartoon or they will hand over the cell phone to the child, instead of doing this parents should properly engage with kiddos through various fun activities and let their child take the lead and support them with cheerful encouragement and observations. Channelise child’s energy towards meaningful and positive things. A good way to do this is to make timetable and set activities for them, activities that will keep them busy from any negativity. And most importantly stay calm with them! They may drive you crazy by throwing tantrums by shouting and whatnot but don’t ever raise your hand or voice it’ll just turn things worse. Always remember they are in a learning process and they are learning from you too. Whatever you expect from your babies make sure to show them in yourself in your own actions. Never thought secondly about giving them physical love, always hug them, snuggle with them even if they consider themselves as “grown up”.

I’ve witnessed how toddlers try to interfere in everything.Like taking lead in kitchen, going to answer the door or your call and maybe that phone call is from your boss! Yes, it can become irritating sometimes but a good solution to this will be giving them more freedom, giving them their own responsibility. The more you prohibit them the more they will be annoyed, because toddlers are wanting to be independent. Let them help you with arranging books in your bookshelf, ask them to help you to decorate vase and so on. Giving toddlers choices is a very good approach to give freedom but in a controlled environment. You can always give them choices between two clothing, two dishes and a lot more even we as an adult want to be offered with choices rather than just having to accept what’s on the plate.
